Textbook Rental Policy

As a low-cost alternative to purchasing course materials, CSB + SJU students may elect to enter into a rental agreement with the CSB + SJU Bookstore for available selected textbooks. The rental agreement is effective for the current semester/session only.

RENTED TEXTBOOKS ARE DUE THE LAST DAY OF FINALS!

Where do I return my rented book?

  • Drop Box outside both Libraries
  • Circulation Desk at libraries
  • Book Buyback counter

Can I write or highlight in my rented textbook?

Yes, we want you to treat the book like it’s your own. However, do be courteous and remember that someone will be using that book after you, so don’t go overboard and ruin the experience for the next renter.

How do I know when my rentals are due?

Rented textbooks are due the last day of finals of the semester you rented the book in.

What if I decide to keep a rental book, or I miss the rental due date?

If the book is not returned, your tuition account will be charged the price of a used book.

Do I get money back when I return the rented book?

There is no money given back when you return it as you paid a smaller price in the beginning of the semester.

Rental Agreement

  1. I am renting the book(s) shown on the receipt. I have paid the rental price and understand the rental return policy.
  2. I am responsible for inspecting the condition of the rental material. Any existing damage must be reported to the CSB+SJU Bookstore within seven days of rental. I accept responsibility for any damage upon return of the rental at the conclusion of the semester.
  3. I will return the book to the Bookstore no later than the last day of finals. If I ship the book, it must be received at the Bookstore no later than the return date, shipping prepaid. Any book returned after the rental due date will be charged the replacement cost.
  4. I will return the book in good saleable condition as determined by the Bookstore. Book must be free of damage caused by fire and liquids (rain, snow, coffee, juice, etc.). The spine and pages must be free of damage. All CDs and other component parts included with this book, must be present and in saleable condition. Very limited highlighting and writing are acceptable.
  5. I am responsible for risk of loss from any cause, including theft, lost item(s).
  6. The CSB + SJU Bookstore is authorized to charge my student account for rental textbooks that are deemed damaged or not returned by the Rental Due Date. I will pay the Bookstore the replacement cost as shown on the receipt at any time after the rental return due date.

If you need to mail your book back, please send it early enough to be received in the bookstore by the last day of finals (no mail delivery on campus on weekends).
