Direct Access Information

What is Direct Access?

Direct Access is a digital textbook distribution program. You will access your digital course materials on your course Canvas page. You will have access to the content on the first day and are billed for it with your tuition before the semester begins. You have the first 10 days of the course to opt out of the materials and receive a refund.

What to Expect:

  • You will be emailed information on the Direct Access program 3-4 days before classes begin. You will access the content on your course Canvas page.
  • You will be billed before the semester begins for the material.
  • You have through the 10th day of the start of the semester to opt out of the program. If you opt out, a refund will be issued and you will see it on your next tuition bill.
  • If you drop the course, a refund will automatically be issued using the prorated course fee refund policy. See the Office of Student Records and Registration for details.
  • Keep in mind that by opting out, you may be losing access to material critical to your success in class.

How much does Direct Access cost?

The price varies depending upon the course materials chosen by your instructor, but Direct Access is priced below market price.

How do I pay for my access?

Your tuition account is billed for the materials at the same time your tuition is billed. If you drop the class a refund will automatically be placed on your tuition account. You will have the first 10 days to opt out of the material. Refunds will not be issued until after the opt-out period has ended.

What does it mean to opt-out?

If you do not wish to participate in Direct Access, you have the first couple of days of the semester to opt out of the program online. If you opt out by the deadline given, access to the online content will be turned off and you will be refunded. If you have any questions about opting out, please contact textbooks@csbsju.edu.
